15 things to make your Erasmus memorable

  1. Make friends, because that’s the point. Join all groups on social networks dedicated for Erasmus+ students in your host town. This way you’ll meet other students you can spend your time with.

  2. Follow local ESN section, they can help you with advice and tips about the life in your new home.

  3. Keep up with what ESN organizes, as most of their events are dedicated to Erasmus students. Events such as parties, trips, gatherings and many others are the best opportunity to get in touch with both international students and local volunteers.

  4. Get the ESNcard, “the official card of Erasmus generation”. Plus, beside proving your membership, it also a discount card with international use.

  5. Learn as much as you can about the country, before and after your arrival. Immerse yourself in the country’s history, culture, traditions and try to visit as many places as you can. Who knows when you’ll have the opportunity to do it again?

  6. Travel, travel & travel. Doesn’t matter if you rent a car or just jump on a train, take your buddies and travel. Don’t forget to check ESN trips.

  7. Learn a foreign language. Just because you can get by speaking mostly English, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t or you can’t use your time abroad to pick up the local language. Your new friends will appreciate your effort and you’ll find it very rewarding for yourself as well!

  8. The best part of memories is making them. Do all that crazy stuff (but legal) you always wanted to do and enjoy moments spent with your friends.

  9. Capture everything. You know what they say, “good times come and go, but memories last forever”. Remember all amazing moments by storing them in good or bad photos and videos. At some point they’ll be priceless, no matter the quality.

  10. Try the local food. Homemade dishes are a world apart, so if invited to have lunch or dinner with a Romanian family, do not miss the opportunity.

  11. Try local drinks, there are a truly pleasure. From beer to wine, liqueur or spirits, a country offers all this delights for who wants to try. You won’t regret it!

  12. Make all your Erasmus friends sign a flag from your exchange country. Buy a flag and have it dedicate by as much people as possible. Its the best souvenir ever to hang on your room’s wall next to your best photos.

  13. Do your budgeting constantly. This is a very crucial part of living abroad. It can seem overwhelming at first when you’re trying to calculate everything but you’ll need it later.

  14. Do not forget to study for your exams and do your assignments. You don’t want to pay back your grant and take the exams home.

  15. And the last, but not the least, enjoy every moment.

Erasmus in not just a year in your life, but your life in one year. ONCE ERASMUS, ALWAYS ERASMUS.
